APINDO Lampung Backs Direct Flight to Malaysia
Friday, 13 February 2026
LAMPUNG – The Lampung Provincial Board (DPP) of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) has expressed strong support for the Lampung Provincial Government’s strategic move to open a direct flight route between Lampung and Malaysia.
The initiative is seen not merely as a transportation convenience, but as a new gateway to strengthening the regional economy, particularly in the tourism, MSME, and services sectors, which have long served as pillars of Lampung’s economic structure.
Chairman of APINDO Lampung, Ary Meizary Alfian, stated that the policy reflects the provincial government’s proactive approach in enhancing connectivity. According to him, the upgraded status of Raden Inten II Airport and the launch of an international route are key steps in attracting foreign capital inflows.
“This is a smart strategy to accelerate economic growth,” Ary said on Friday, February 13, 2026. “The government is no longer relying solely on the regional budget, but is actively engaging the private sector to drive economic momentum,” he added.
Ary further noted that stronger cross-border connectivity would create a multiplier effect, particularly in supporting ongoing improvements to local infrastructure.
“Quality regional infrastructure, when linked to international access, will create a far more competitive business ecosystem,” he explained. APINDO’s support was demonstrated through its direct involvement in the inaugural flight.
He revealed that APINDO executives were part of the organizing efforts and that a business delegation was sent to Malaysia to explore market potential firsthand. “We fully support this initiative because the route cuts through layers of travel bureaucracy,” Ary emphasized.
Previously, travelers had to transit via Jakarta, resulting in inefficiencies in time and cost. “With a direct flight, business opportunities for MSMEs to penetrate export markets are significantly expanded,” he stressed.
Comprehensively, the new route is expected to help address global economic challenges through several strategic impacts, including increased tourist arrivals. Easier access will enable Malaysian and neighboring foreign tourists to reach Lampung’s prime destinations without transit barriers.
Ary added that the route will also serve as an investment magnet, facilitating foreign investors’ site visits and business coordination in Lampung. In addition, it is expected to strengthen the services sector, including healthcare and education—areas that represent strategic advantages in bilateral relations between the two regions.
“APINDO will continue to safeguard and fully support every government initiative oriented toward advancing Lampung’s economy,” Ary stated.
“We hope this marks the beginning of other strategic international routes in the future,” he concluded.
