RIAU – The Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) emphasized respect for the public’s right to voice aspirations, including those of university students, noting that it is a constitutional right that must be safeguarded.
Chairman of Apindo Riau, Wijatmoko Rah Trisno, called on the local government to open dialogue with students and other community groups. According to him, open communication is the best solution to maintain regional stability.
“Apindo Riau respects public aspirations. However, we stress the importance of dialogue between the government and students to avoid misunderstandings,” he said.
While supporting freedom of expression, Apindo Riau firmly rejected demonstrations that involve anarchic acts or looting, warning that such actions would harm society at large.
“We do not agree with protests turning into anarchy or looting under any circumstances. Such actions not only harm businesses but also disrupt public order,” Wijatmoko asserted.
Regarding the potential economic impact of the protests, Wijatmoko noted that so far there has been no significant effect on investment or regional economic growth, as long as demonstrations remain orderly.
“There has been no significant economic impact, provided there is no anarchy,” he said.
He emphasized that investor confidence in Riau would remain intact if the business climate is preserved, with security stability being a key factor in attracting long-term investment.
Wijatmoko added that the sustainability of the regional economy is closely tied to a conducive environment. For that reason, Apindo Riau supports the efforts of law enforcement and local government to maintain security during demonstrations.
He expressed hope that public aspirations can be conveyed effectively through dialogue, without undermining the public interest or business stability.
