APINDO Batam Issues Seven-Point Advisory on Indonesia’s Current Situation

BATAM – The Batam chapter of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (APINDO) has issued a public advisory in response to the current political dynamics in Indonesia and Batam.

The statement, signed by APINDO Batam Chairman Dr. Rafki Rasyid, outlines seven key points addressing investors, foreign workers, expatriates, tourists, the local community, students, workers, and security forces.

The advisory urges all business operators in Batam to remain calm and continue normal business activities, emphasizing that security in Batam remains stable and historically well-maintained. APINDO also reminded the public to be vigilant against hoaxes and misinformation circulating on social media and to avoid spreading unverified content.

Foreign investors and expatriates were reassured that Batam remains safe, noting that demonstrations, if they occur, are conducted peacefully without disrupting public order. Tourists were also encouraged not to cancel their travel plans, with Batam deemed safe for domestic and international visitors alike.

APINDO further called on security forces to maintain their commitment to safeguarding Batam’s conducive investment climate, pledging to cooperate in ensuring stability. The organization also urged students, workers, and the wider community to preserve peace in Batam, stressing that the city’s safety is crucial for the livelihood and prosperity of its residents.

Police Assure Stability Amid Hoax Messages

Concerns briefly rose after WhatsApp chain messages warned of large-scale demonstrations and urged shop closures and avoidance of shopping centers. Batam Police Chief, Kombes Pol Zaenal Arifin, dismissed these messages as hoaxes, assuring the public that Batam remains secure under the watch of police and military forces.

“Many messages spread irresponsible narratives. I can confirm they are hoaxes. Batam is safe, and TNI-Polri continue to safeguard the city,” he said on Monday (September 1, 2025). He added that Batam City Government and Batam Authority (BP Batam) are working closely with security agencies to maintain normalcy.

Kepri Police Reinforce Security Measures

Riau Islands Police Chief, Irjen Pol Asep Safrudin, reiterated his force’s commitment to maintaining public order in Batam and across the province, while monitoring developments in other regions of Indonesia.

He explained that preventive measures, including public communication with students and community groups, are underway to discourage potential unrest. Enhanced security has also been deployed at vital sites in coordination with the military.

“Regional leaders, community figures, students, workers, and civil organizations across Riau Islands have all agreed to safeguard peace and order. Kepri is our shared home,” Asep stressed.

Authorities in Batam and the Riau Islands continue to call for calm, unity, and business-as-usual activities despite the tense national atmosphere.
