APINDO Papua Secures Four “Red and White Fishermen Villages” Projects
Friday, 20 February 2026
Jakarta – A new strategic milestone has been achieved by the Provincial Executive Board (DPP) of the Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO) Papua. During an official meeting with Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Didit Herdiawan, Papua was confirmed to receive the allocation for the development of four “Red and White Fishermen Villages.”
The meeting took place at the Office of the Deputy Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries in Jakarta on Wednesday (February 19, 2026), focusing on strengthening the marine and fisheries sector in Papua, particularly in the northern coastal region covering Biak Numfor, Supiori, Yapen Islands, Waropen, Sarmi, and Jayapura.
The APINDO Papua delegation was led by Chairman Moses Morin, accompanied by Secretary General Bonifasius Mofu, APINDO Supiori Chairwoman Anita Helen Faidiban, S.E., and APINDO Papua member Yussiya Kristianto.
Secretary General Bonifasius Mofu explained that the meeting aimed to accelerate the optimization of Papua’s vast marine and fisheries potential, which still requires stronger policy support, investment, and sustainable governance.
“Papua has extraordinary maritime strength. Areas such as Biak, Supiori, Yapen, Waropen, Sarmi, and Jayapura are strategic coastal regions that must be developed into new marine-based economic growth centers,” he said.
He emphasized that concrete collaboration between the central government, regional governments, and business actors is essential to accelerate downstream development in the fisheries sector and improve the welfare of fishermen across Papua.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister presented the national “Red and White Fishermen Village” program, part of President Prabowo Subianto’s policy to strengthen coastal economies and empower Indonesian fishermen.
In particular, the Deputy Minister highlighted Samber-Binyeri Fishermen Village in Biak Numfor Regency as one of the national pilot projects. The model is considered successful in integrating infrastructure development, capacity building for fishermen, and strengthening modern and sustainable fisheries supply chains.
The area is expected to serve as a reference for developing other fishermen villages across Papua.
During the dialogue, APINDO Papua expressed its commitment to actively participate in the development of the Red and White Fishermen Villages in the region.
The central government responded positively. The Deputy Minister announced that APINDO Papua would be given the opportunity to play a role in developing four Red and White Fishermen Villages planned to be located in:
- Biak Numfor Regency
- Supiori Regency
- Jayapura Regency
- Sarmi Regency
APINDO Papua’s involvement is viewed as strategic in strengthening partnerships between the government and the business sector to promote investment, fisheries product downstreaming, and job creation in coastal areas.
APINDO Papua Chairman Moses Morin expressed appreciation for the trust granted by the central government.
“We are ready to become a strategic partner of the government in accelerating the development of Papua’s marine and fisheries sector. This is an important momentum for the revival of the coastal economy in Papua,” Moses affirmed.
He confirmed that APINDO Papua will immediately coordinate with regional leaders, including the Regents of Biak Numfor, Supiori, Waropen, and Jayapura, to accelerate implementation on the ground.
