APINDO North Maluku Partners with Indonesia Stock Exchange to Socialize IPO to Entrepreneurs

Ternate – The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) of North Maluku, in collaboration with the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), held a socialization session on Initial Public Offerings (IPOs) for local business actors in North Maluku. The event highlighted the benefits of turning private companies into public companies. This was conveyed by Gazali Abd Mutalib, Chairman of APINDO North Maluku, to TeropongMalut.com after the IDX program titled Road to Go Public, held at Bella Hotel, Ternate City, on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Gazali explained that the Road to Go Public initiative was the first of its kind in North Maluku.

“The goal is to provide entrepreneurs with information on the benefits of IPOs, or transforming companies into public companies by listing on the Indonesia Stock Exchange,” Gazali stated.

He further revealed that many companies in North Maluku already meet the requirements for IPOs. However, due to a lack of sufficient information, no companies have yet taken the step to go public.

Meanwhile, North Maluku Vice Governor Sarbin Sehe, who officially opened the event, expressed appreciation for APINDO North Maluku’s effort in collaborating with IDX to raise awareness about IPOs among entrepreneurs.

“We appreciate APINDO North Maluku for organizing this very meaningful event. North Maluku’s economic growth is indeed strong, and overall, the investment climate here remains conducive,” said the Vice Governor.

About IPOs

An Initial Public Offering (IPO) is the process by which a private company offers its shares to the public for the first time on the capital market, such as the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The main purposes are to raise capital for business expansion or other needs, transform into a public company, and provide investors with the opportunity to own shares.

Key Objectives of IPOs:

  • Raising Capital: Companies secure substantial funds from public investors to finance projects, expansion, research, or working capital.
  • Becoming a Public Company: Companies shift from private ownership to public ownership, allowing shares to be freely traded.
  • Enhancing Corporate Image: Going public increases a company’s reputation and credibility among the public and investors.

Benefits of IPOs for Investors:

  • Potential Gains: Investors can earn capital gains if stock prices rise after listing.
  • Early Investment Opportunity: Investors can become shareholders from the company’s first entry into the capital market.
  • Differences from Private Companies: Before IPOs, companies are privately owned, with shares held by founders or a small group. After IPOs, they become public companies, enabling broader participation in shareholding and trading on the stock exchange.

Brief IPO Process:

  • Preparation: Companies undergo preparation supervised by regulators and the stock exchange.
  • Public Expose: Companies present their plans and profit potential to the public.
  • Book Building: Investors place orders, specifying desired share quantities and prices.
  • Listing: The company’s shares begin trading publicly on the stock exchange.
