Apindo and Kadin South Sulawesi Urge Peaceful Expression of Aspirations
Monday, 01 September 2025
MAKASSAR – Business associations in South Sulawesi have called on the public to express their aspirations peacefully and in an orderly manner.
The appeal came in response to demonstrations in several regions, including Makassar, that raised concerns after resulting in casualties.
Chairman of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) South Sulawesi, Suhardi, expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in a number of areas.
“We hope that all parties uphold the values of humanity, solidarity, and unity as a nation,” Suhardi told Tribun-Timur.com on Monday (September 1, 2025).
He urged the public to maintain empathy and sensitivity toward one another, while also fostering peace and stability. According to him, Apindo members are expected to remain calm, build communication with stakeholders, and safeguard business continuity in their respective regions.
“The business community must act as a pillar, ensuring business sustainability and livelihoods, protecting workers, and continuing to contribute to economic stability,” Suhardi emphasized.
He added that Apindo believes the government will continue to protect citizens, ensure legal certainty, and create a secure business climate. Collaboration between the government, business sector, and society, he said, is essential.
“Apindo is ready to serve as a strong bridge, providing constructive input and supporting the recovery of public and market confidence. Only in a safe, peaceful, and conducive environment can we get through these difficult times while ensuring the continuity of life, livelihoods, and the hopes of the Indonesian people,” Suhardi added.
Avoid Anarchy
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) South Sulawesi, Satriya Madjid, warned that social unrest and protests could disrupt regional economic growth.
He acknowledged that public demonstrations are a legitimate part of freedom of expression, but stressed that when protests obstruct economic activities, the impact can be severe.
“Imagine if port activities come to a halt, workers stop, and industries shut down because employees join the protests. That would seriously affect productivity,” Satriya said.
He urged all parties to reflect and work together to maintain stability in their regions, noting that aspirations should be conveyed without anarchic actions.
Satriya also highlighted the economic impact of work-from-home (WFH) policies, pointing out that such measures disrupt field activities, from transportation to MSMEs.
“Just imagine, when schools are closed, transportation and MSME activities are inevitably affected. Yet these real sectors are the main drivers of our economy,” Satriya explained.
