MANOKWARI, West Papua – The West Papua Provincial Leadership Board (DPP) of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) held its first 2026 Work Meeting and Consolidation Forum to strengthen investment and promote job creation in West Papua.
The forum also served as a platform to strengthen collaboration among the business community, government, and strategic partners in supporting regional economic growth.
“Synergy between the government and the business community is key to creating a healthy business environment. APINDO has an important role in strengthening the regional economy while creating employment opportunities for the younger generation,” said Marthen Kocu, Expert Staff for Economic and Development Affairs at the West Papua Regional Secretariat, during the meeting at the West Papua BPMP Hall on Saturday (25/7/2026).
Marthen said the business sector plays a key role as a driver of investment and a creator of employment opportunities for young people. He emphasized that collaboration between the government and business community is essential to establishing a healthy and sustainable business climate.
He also acknowledged that development in West Papua continues to face challenges, including limited infrastructure and difficult geographical conditions. Therefore, he expressed hope that the work meeting would produce concrete, realistic, and targeted programs that could have a meaningful impact on regional development.
“This consolidation is an initial step toward creating a more conducive and stronger business environment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of DPP APINDO West Papua, Sloyer Elisa, said APINDO has continued to support economic growth since its establishment in 1952 through partnerships among the government, employers, and workers.
According to him, the organization remains committed to building harmonious industrial relations and fostering a conducive investment climate.
He noted that growth in the oil and gas sector in West Papua reflects growing investor confidence. However, he stressed that economic growth should not rely solely on the oil and gas industry.
“Going forward, we need to encourage the agriculture, fisheries, and MSME sectors to grow as well and contribute more significantly to the regional economy,” he said.
Sloyer added that APINDO would continue to work closely with the government and all stakeholders to increase investment, expand employment opportunities, strengthen regional competitiveness, and reduce poverty in West Papua.
The work meeting also served as a forum to formulate realistic measures to strengthen the business sector and stakeholder collaboration.
“I encourage all APINDO members to continue strengthening synergy and making their best contribution to building a strong and sustainable business sector,” he said.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the First 2026 Work Meeting and Consolidation Forum of DPP APINDO West Papua, Matius Laretji, said preparations for the event had been carried out for approximately one month through coordination with APINDO officials and strategic partners.
He said all challenges encountered during the preparation process were addressed through coordination and efforts to establish a common understanding.
“I hope this work meeting will produce decisions that bring positive changes for the business community and entrepreneurs in West Papua,” Matius said.
