APINDO Rakerkonas Encourages Synergy Between Entrepreneurs and Government

The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) highlighted the improvement of the business climate in Indonesia, including several notes on potential business permit challenges following the enactment of UU Cipta Kerja, UU Financial Relations between the Central and Regional Governments (UU HKPD), and Regional Regulations (Perda) that could hinder regional investment.

These challenges and issues regarding business permits became the focus of the 33rd APINDO National Work and Consultation Meeting (Rakerkonas), with the theme "Synergy between Entrepreneurs and Government: Ensuring the Quality of Synergy and the Role of Bureaucracy in Facilitating Business Activities," held at Samator Novotel East, Surabaya, from August 28-30, 2024.

This year’s APINDO XXXIII Rakerkonas featured Indonesia’s Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah, and Minister of Investment Rosan Roeslani.

Chairman of the APINDO National Executive Board (DPN), Shinta W. Kamdani, stated that the dialogue between business players and ministers at APINDO XXXIII Rakerkonas is expected to provide insight into the economic policy direction of the new national leadership.

"Collaboration between the government, private sector, and the education sector is needed to develop workers' skills in order to meet the demand for skilled labor in the technology era," said Shinta.

"At APINDO XXXIII Rakerkonas, we will also present a report on APINDO's work over the past year as a representation of the business sector. Our report includes policy advocacy efforts aimed at achieving a conducive investment climate for job creation across Indonesia," Shinta continued.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the APINDO East Java Provincial Leadership Board (DPP), Eddy Widjanarko, stated that the presentation of the annual work report is mandated by the organization's articles of association. The 33rd APINDO Rakerkonas will also discuss the synergy between entrepreneurs, particularly with the government, on legal certainty to enhance investment.

"Investment by both foreign and local investors, which can create business opportunities and jobs, can continue to be increased, and this depends on tripartite relations involving the government, entrepreneurs, and workers," Eddy Widjanarko explained.

APINDO, which has played a role as a partner and catalyst in driving the economy across various activities, consistently supports the creation of a conducive investment climate, in addition to wages and productivity.

"Investment is strategic for economic growth across Indonesia, including in East Java, the host of this 33rd APINDO Rakerkonas. We are currently mapping regional potentials and determining the appropriate business climate to enhance. Therefore, it is essential to discuss synergy at APINDO XXXIII Rakerkonas, which undoubtedly involves all parties, including the government," Eddy added.

The synergy between the government and the business sector was also emphasized by the Organizing Committee of the 33rd APINDO Rakerkonas, Imelda Harsono, as synergy is closely related to regulations, which are the backbone of the domestic business climate.

"Regulation is key to productivity. It will be a challenge for all of us, both the business community and Indonesia's economic growth, if regulations are issued that hinder investment. Given that synergy plays a crucial role in investment, we at APINDO have made synergy the main theme of the 33rd APINDO Rakerkonas to ensure that regulations receive input from the business sector," explained Imelda.

Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Edwin, conveyed similar sentiments, stating that this Rakerkonas serves as an important moment for entrepreneurs and the government, especially in determining regulations and simplifying bureaucracy.

As part of the 33rd APINDO Rakerkonas, activities for MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) were held in an integrated format, including the APINDO Expo, MSME Fair, and mentorship programs to help MSMEs scale up.

"The MSME activities at the 33rd APINDO Rakerkonas aim to help MSMEs scale up. Therefore, the APINDO Expo and MSME Fair are not just exhibitions but also an opportunity for MSMEs to gain knowledge for scaling up," said Bagus Raka, Deputy Chairman for MSMEs at APINDO East Java and Head of Exhibitions and Sponsorships for the Rakerkonas.
