APINDO Jambi Calls for Social and Economic Impact Assessment in PT BSU Land Execution

JAMBI – The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) of Jambi Province has called on the government to seek the best possible solution regarding the planned execution of land belonging to PT BSU in Sei Temidai, Bungku, Bajubang District, Batang Hari Regency.
Chairman of APINDO Jambi Province John Kennedy said the continuity of the company’s operations should be taken into consideration, as its activities affect not only the company itself but also surrounding communities.
The company’s presence, he said, has contributed to economic activity at the grassroots level.
“If the company ceases operations, the impact could be felt by thousands of workers, business owners and members of the surrounding community,” John said on Saturday (August 29, 2026).
APINDO urged the government not to view the planned land execution solely from a legal perspective, but also to take into account its potential social and economic impacts.
APINDO Jambi Province is also ready to help facilitate dialogue so that the matter can be resolved without creating broader consequences.
John said the District Court should consider postponing the execution while the parties seek a mutually acceptable solution.
“The execution should not proceed without a comprehensive assessment. The government needs to consider the social and environmental impacts before taking action,” he said.
John expressed concern that if the dispute is not resolved promptly, its consequences could spread to the broader economic conditions in Jambi.
He said the dispute could place additional pressure on local communities if the company’s operations were suspended.
For years, thousands of people have not only relied on the company as a source of income but have also contributed to driving economic activity in the surrounding areas.
Employees and their families depend on local traders and businesses for their daily needs.
“If their incomes are disrupted, economic activity in the surrounding communities could also weaken,” John said.
In light of these circumstances, APINDO Jambi called on the government, relevant agencies and security authorities to consider all potential impacts before carrying out the execution.
Any resolution, he stressed, should take multiple aspects into account so that the legal process does not create new problems or put the livelihoods of thousands of people at risk.
APINDO Jambi Province also urged the government to bring the relevant parties together to explore alternative solutions.
The execution, John said, should be considered a last resort if there is still room to resolve the matter through dialogue and deliberation.
“Is there really no other way? Is it not possible for the parties to sit down together and discuss a solution?” John said. “We at APINDO are ready to encourage the matter to be resolved through dialogue and deliberation.”
John also called on the company’s management to evaluate the issues involved so that the company can operate more effectively going forward and continue contributing to the regional economy.
