APINDO Jakarta: Floods Impact Business Activities

APINDO Jakarta: Floods Impact Business Activities

JAKARTA - Flood disasters have affected several areas in Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek), impacting business activities in the affected regions.

Deputy Chairman of the Jakarta Regional Leadership Board of APINDO (DPP APINDO DKI Jakarta), Nurjaman, stated that his party has not yet received further information regarding material losses caused by the floods.

Nevertheless, companies located in flood-affected areas are unable to carry out their business operations.

He explained that some companies have been directly affected by the floods, while others have not been submerged but still experience widespread impacts.

"The biggest losses are certainly experienced by companies directly hit by the floods. Goods that are submerged or washed away result in significant financial losses," said Nurjaman to Kontan on Wednesday (March 5).

Nurjaman added that business premises affected by floods add to the burden on entrepreneurs. Once the floodwaters recede, business owners must repair their facilities and infrastructure.

Even if a business is no longer directly affected by flooding, the recovery and repair process still takes considerable time and financial resources.

"To resume operations, businesses require a substantial amount of capital," he added.

Previously, Vice President (Wapres) Gibran Rakabuming and Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Lt. Gen. TNI Suharyanto, visited flood-affected locations in Pondok Gede Asri Housing Complex, Jatiasih District, Bekasi City, West Java, on Wednesday (March 5).

The Vice President assured that all urgent basic needs and both short-term and long-term solutions would be provided by the government through BNPB, in collaboration with relevant ministries/agencies and local governments.

Gibran also instructed BNPB to continue prioritizing direct assistance for affected communities, including rescue and evacuation, fulfillment of basic needs, food distribution, and emergency response efforts.

Suharyanto stated that BNPB, together with relevant parties, has activated an Integrated Disaster Management Post, carried out search, evacuation, and rescue operations for affected residents.

"We ensure that the basic needs of evacuees are met optimally and conduct data collection on damaged goods, homes, infrastructure, and other affected assets due to the flooding," explained Suharyanto.

As a mitigation measure to anticipate potential further disasters, BNPB has been conducting Weather Modification Operations (OMC) since Tuesday (March 4) and will continue until Saturday (March 8).

According to the BNPB Chief, this operation will be extended if necessary, particularly considering weather forecasts from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), which predict increased rainfall between March 11-15.

"The weather modification operation will be carried out until March 8, followed by a short pause, and then resumed on March 11 if BMKG forecasts indicate further heavy rainfall," stated Suharyanto.
