BATAM – In a bid to strengthen synergy with the business sector, the Acting Head of the Manpower and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans) of Riau Islands Province (Kepri), along with the Head of Labor Supervision Division and staff, paid a courtesy visit to the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) Batam Chapter at Menara Arya on Friday morning, May 16, 2025.
Jhon Andarista Barus, Acting Head of Disnakertrans Kepri, stated that the visit was a gesture of goodwill aimed at updating investment information and discussing labor standards in Batam—one of the economic powerhouses of the province.
"We want to ensure that Batam’s business climate remains conducive while listening directly to employers’ perspectives on regulations and labor dynamics," said Jhon during the meeting.
This collaborative dialogue echoed the peaceful spirit of the recent May Day celebrations held across Batam.
Chairman of APINDO Batam, Rafki Rasyid, and Chairman of APINDO Kepri, Stanley Rocky, together with the board members, expressed their appreciation for the orderly conduct of May Day 2025.
“We thank the labor community and Disnaker Kepri for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. This stability is crucial for sustaining investment,” said Rafki.
While praising the collaboration, APINDO also highlighted the importance of legal certainty—particularly in the interpretation and implementation of labor regulations to avoid confusion at the operational level. In response, the Manpower Office pledged to roll out integrated awareness campaigns and provide regulatory consultation clinics for corporate HR departments.
The dialogue further explored the development of training and apprenticeship programs to enhance the competence of the local workforce. This aligns with the vision of Governor Ansar Ahmad and Vice Governor Nyanyang Haris Pratamura to cultivate a skilled and productive human capital base.
“We will continue to strengthen the link between training graduates and industry needs. Businesses demand specific skill sets, and the government is committed to preparing the talent,” Jhon affirmed.
The meeting also agreed on a quarterly forum between Disnaker and APINDO to monitor investment and labor developments, conduct webinars and labor law clinics to disseminate new regulations, and synchronize job vacancy data with training programs to ensure targeted apprenticeships.
The visit concluded with a group photo, marking a shared commitment to keeping Batam investment-friendly while upholding workers’ rights.
