APINDO South Papua: Workers as a Company’s Investment

Merauke – The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) of South Papua has expressed its support for the government in driving economic growth by recognizing employees and workers as valuable investments for companies. In line with this, companies are encouraged to uphold the rights and responsibilities of workers according to government-mandated standards.

Abdul Azis, S.Sos., M.M., Secretary of APINDO South Papua, stated that employee rights under company regulations are generally divided into two categories: the right to wages as compensation for services rendered, and the right to protection as a worker within the company.

He noted that wage determinations are based on several factors, including inflation rates, labor productivity, and overall economic growth. For South Papua Province, the Provincial Minimum Wage (UMP), as agreed upon by the provincial wage council, stands at IDR 4,285,850 — making it the third-highest minimum wage in Indonesia.

On that occasion, Abdul Azis emphasized that while companies must respect the rights of their employees, “Employees must also comply with company rules to ensure mutual support. If a serious violation is committed by an employee, unfortunately, termination may be necessary, with only severance pay provided as stipulated in the collective labor agreement,” he said during a dialogue on RRI, Thursday (May 1, 2025).

He further encouraged all workers and employees across South Papua to continuously pursue self-development by practicing discipline, honesty, and adherence to company and government regulations, in order to improve their family welfare and contribute to regional development.
