APINDO Papua Says WFH Policy Strengthens National Energy Resilience

JAYAPURA – The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) Papua Province has expressed its support for the government’s policy on implementing a one-day-per-week Work From Home (WFH) scheme, as outlined in a Circular Letter issued by the Ministry of Manpower. The policy is seen as a strategic measure to respond to current economic dynamics while promoting efficiency in the business sector.

APINDO Papua Chairman, Moses Morin, stated that the WFH policy represents a positive step toward strengthening national energy resilience. He noted that limited implementation of remote working can help companies reduce operational costs, particularly energy consumption in the workplace, while also encouraging more adaptive and efficient work patterns.

“The policy is also expected to create a balance between productivity and efficiency,” Moses said in a written statement on Wednesday (April 1, 2026).

However, APINDO Papua emphasized that the implementation of WFH must be tailored to the specific characteristics of each business sector. Not all types of work can be performed remotely, especially those that require physical presence, such as production-based industries.

The association also welcomed the flexibility provided by the government, allowing companies to determine their own WFH mechanisms, including working hours and performance monitoring systems. This flexibility is considered essential to ensure that productivity is maintained while supporting energy-saving efforts.

Furthermore, Moses highlighted the importance of effective communication between company management and employees in implementing the policy. Such coordination is crucial to ensure that energy efficiency goals can be achieved without compromising performance or service quality.

Through strong synergy between the government, business actors, and workers, APINDO Papua hopes that the policy can be implemented effectively and deliver tangible benefits in strengthening national energy resilience and supporting sustainable business practices.
