APINDO NTT Provides Rp50 Million in Aid to Help Address Drought on Timor Island

KUPANG, August 24, 2026 — The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) has provided Rp50 million in assistance to the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) as part of efforts to address drought conditions on Timor Island.
The assistance from APINDO’s National Leadership Council (DPN APINDO) was handed over by Chairman of the NTT Provincial Leadership Council (DPP APINDO NTT), Bobby Pitoby, to Chairman of the NTT Provincial PMI, Alfridus Bria Seran, in Kupang on Monday (August 24, 2026).
Bobby Pitoby was accompanied by Secretary General of DPP APINDO NTT Toni Dima and Treasurer General Rudy Rikony. Also present were NTT PMI Secretary George Hadjo and Deputy Chairman Agustinus Nahak.
The assistance comes ahead of the peak of the dry season, expected in September and October, when communities in parts of Timor Island could face increasing difficulties in accessing clean water and maintaining food security.
Bobby Pitoby said the assistance reflects APINDO’s concern and support for PMI NTT, which has been actively responding to drought-related emergencies, particularly across Timor Island.
“This assistance from DPN APINDO is a contribution to PMI NTT, which has been carrying out drought mitigation efforts, particularly in the Timor region,” Bobby said.
He noted that drought is not merely a matter of declining water availability, but can also disrupt food production and trigger a range of other social and economic challenges for local communities.
Chairman of the NTT Provincial PMI, Alfridus Bria Seran, expressed his appreciation to APINDO for supporting PMI NTT’s efforts to address the drought situation in the province.
“I believe that if all of us, particularly the stakeholders in NTT, work hand in hand, we can address these challenges properly,” he said.
The assistance is expected to support PMI NTT’s humanitarian response and drought mitigation efforts as communities across Timor Island prepare for the peak of the dry season.
