Bandung – After the closures of Sritex and PT Danbi, Yamaha Music is now planning to cease factory operations by the end of March 2025. This puts its workers at risk of unemployment or layoffs. This was stated by the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) after attending the opening of the PT Ultimate Noble Indonesia shoe factory in Garut Regency on Monday (3/3/2025).

All foreign investors who have poured substantial capital into Indonesia are now wary of the economic impact in the country. Business owners who have made significant investments must exercise caution due to security concerns.

West Java Apindo Chairperson, Ning Wahyu Astutik, emphasized that large-scale business owners need to anticipate future developments, including inflation and Indonesia’s economic growth, to ensure smooth operations.

"Business owners make massive investments, so they need to be aware of what lies ahead. In the past, wages increased based on inflation and economic growth, but now, we are uncertain. Companies are operating in the dark," said Ning Wahyu Astutik.

Ning also expressed confusion over the frequently changing formulas and regulations. Nevertheless, investment value in West Java has reportedly increased. However, workforce absorption must be carefully considered, particularly regarding the placement of workers based on their education levels. Out of 600,000 high school and vocational school graduates, only 20 percent continue to higher education.

Ning did not deny the issue of Yamaha Music’s factory potentially shutting down operations.

"It is true that there is information indicating Yamaha Music will lay off employees. Their main issue, as they stated, is their inability to compete anymore. They cannot sell their products because they are losing to competitors. However, they do not wish to discuss security concerns," she concluded.
