Meeting with Apindo, Airlangga Ensures Industrial Areas Can Import LNG

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, ensures that business actors in industrial areas can import liquefied natural gas (LNG) when domestic gas prices are relatively high.
Airlangga conveyed this assurance during a visit from several top entrepreneurs gathered in the Indonesian Employers' Association (Apindo) at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Office in Jakarta on Tuesday (July 16, 2024).
Apindo Deputy Chairman Sanny Iskandar positively assessed the LNG import plan promised by Airlangga. Sanny hopes that the permit to import LNG can create more competitive gas prices for domestic industries in the future.
"To ensure there is real competition so that the prices will be formed according to the market for the growth of the national industry," said Apindo Deputy Chairman Sanny Iskandar when met after the meeting with Airlangga.
Sanny stated that the government's policy direction has attempted to open up the possibility of other gas supplies outside the supply from PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. (PGAS) or PGN. However, Sanny mentioned that Airlangga has not yet explained more specifically the conditions that must be met for the LNG import permit.
Recently, Sanny said, PGN has implemented a quota scheme for the purchase of piped gas mixed with LNG. Consequently, the price of gas supplied by PGN for the industry is far from the determination of certain natural gas prices (HGBT).
"At the very least, the price of US$6 per million British thermal units [MMBtu] should not increase again, according to HGBT," he said.
