Visit Hong Kong and Shenzhen, APINDO Strengthens Economic Cooperation
Monday, 22 April 2024The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) delegation aims to strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, technology, finance, trade, and investment with Hong Kong and Shenzhen through a business trip from April 16 to 20, 2024.
“Hong Kong has long been a champion in handling large-scale infrastructure projects,” said APINDO Chairman Shinta Kamdani in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday (22/4).
Besides infrastructure, she believes that trade, investment, and other economic cooperation between Indonesia and Hong Kong will continue to grow.
Shinta mentioned that Hong Kong holds the position of the third-largest foreign investor in Indonesia. Total investment from January to September 2023 reached USD 5.2 billion.
During the business trip, APINDO met with Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee and Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau.
After visiting Hong Kong, the APINDO delegation also held meetings with several strategic partners in Shenzhen, China. One of the destinations was the Huawei campus.
The APINDO delegation also met with business leaders from several companies and educational institutions in Shenzhen, such as Tencent, BYD Company, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS), and BGI.
“Shenzhen offers investment opportunities that need to be explored by Indonesian business actors,” she said.
Shinta stated that Shenzhen has been officially designated by the UN as the city of the future due to its economic, social, and environmentally friendly advancements.
Shenzhen, she added, is known as the Silicon Valley of Asia due to its innovations and technological advancements. Last year, the IKN authority even signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between IKN and Shenzhen.
The city, located adjacent to Hong Kong, also has a reputation as a global financial center. Many Shenzhen-based companies have grown into global technology giants like Tencent, Huawei, and ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok.
