The 2025 State Budget Deficit is Set at 3%, Entrepreneurs Firmly Remind the Government
Thursday, 11 April 2024Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO), Shinta Kamdani, spoke out about the government starting to discuss the Draft State Budget (RAPBN) for 2025. She urged that the State Budget, which is likely to be implemented by the elected President Prabowo Subianto, should enforce fiscal discipline.
"We have all learned from the experiences with the State Budget; its usage is very important. Discipline is the key," said Shinta during a halal bihalal event at the official residence of Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto on Thursday night (April 11).
Shinta mentioned that the government might widen the deficit. However, she insisted that budget usage must be clear and disciplined.
"Even if the deficit is to be widened, its usage must be clear and disciplined, so it must have a multiplier effect," she said.
Shinta also stated that during this transition period, President Jokowi's government should communicate with the upcoming government that will implement the State Budget. She hopes that fiscal discipline will be prioritized in this communication.
"That needs to be maintained because economic programs are included there, and we heavily rely on financing from the State Budget," she said.
Previously, President Jokowi's government was known to have started discussing the RAPBN 2025. Some time ago, President Jokowi called several ministers for a limited meeting regarding the 2025 State Budget at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.
"It was also agreed upon to maintain the commitment to keeping the deficit below 3% to ensure the discipline of the State Budget is maintained. This will also enhance the quality and stability so the new government can focus on delivering its priority programs," said Sri Mulyani.
