Visit to Morowali: Central Sulawesi APINDO Strengthens Communication with Local Government and Private Sector

MOROWALI – The Provincial Leadership Board of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (DPP APINDO) of Central Sulawesi continues to accelerate its efforts to build strategic communication with local governments and the private sector.

Following a previous audience with Central Sulawesi Governor Anwar Hafid, DPP APINDO Central Sulawesi Chairman Wijaya Chandra, accompanied by several board members, conducted a working visit to Morowali Regency on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

The visit began with a meeting and dialogue with the management of PT Indonesia Morowali Industrial Park (IMIP). During the discussion, the APINDO delegation explored potential collaborations in logistics distribution and the supply of high-nutrient food products—such as eel and edible bird’s nest—to support the needs of the industrial area.

Following the meeting with PT IMIP, the delegation continued their visit to the Chairman of the Morowali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), Herdianto Marzuki, SE. Also present were council member H. Putra Bonewa, who is also the owner of Metro Hotel, and Morowali Deputy Police Chief, Commissioner Awaludin.

Among those joining the APINDO Central Sulawesi delegation were Palu City APINDO Branch Chair Ngo Hendrik; Deputy Secretary-General Gusti Ayu Muliasrini; and Head of Women’s Economic Empowerment and Social Activities, Tetty Raharjo.

Chairman Wijaya Chandra emphasized that the visit was part of APINDO's outreach program and an effort to explore cooperation with various parties, including local governments, business sectors, and other stakeholders that could become strategic partners in Central Sulawesi.

“Our focus in Morowali includes identifying business opportunities that align with the industrial needs at PT IMIP, including the supply of nutritious food and the development of industry-ready human resources,” he said.

APINDO also proposed a cooperation scheme involving vocational training centers (BLK) to prepare skilled labor. According to Wijaya, APINDO is ready to provide training facilities, while instructors could be supplied by PT IMIP as the industry partner.

“These collaboration opportunities will be further coordinated with PT IMIP’s CSR division,” he added.

The discussions also touched on key strategic issues, such as job creation amid limited human resource capacity. APINDO sees the solution in strengthening BLK capacity to produce high-quality, competitive workers for the technology-driven industrial era.

“With strong human resources, we are optimistic that within the next 10 years, local labor can synergize with industrial technological advancements,” Wijaya explained.

He also stressed the importance of connecting regional potentials in districts and cities with both national and foreign investors, utilizing APINDO’s national network and business relations.

“The high unemployment rate among unskilled workers needs to be addressed through human resource development via vocational training centers and vocational schools, so they can become work-ready and adapt to advancing technologies,” he added.

Concluding the visit, APINDO held a discussion with the Morowali DPRD Chair regarding supporting infrastructure needs, such as road networks and port capacity, which are crucial for the development of Morowali’s economic corridors.

“On behalf of all DPP APINDO Central Sulawesi board members, I extend my gratitude to PT IMIP and the Chairman of the Morowali DPRD for their warm welcome and openness in discussing regional development potentials,” Wijaya Chandra concluded.
