APINDO and Labor Unions in Sukoharjo Criticize One-Day Weekly WFH Policy

APINDO and Labor Unions in Sukoharjo Criticize One-Day Weekly WFH Policy

Sukoharjo – The Sukoharjo chapter of the Asosiasi Pengusaha Indonesia (APINDO) and local labor unions have jointly voiced criticism over a proposed policy to implement one day of work from home (WFH) per week for both civil servants and private-sector employees.

The proposed scheme has raised concerns over its potential impact on productivity, particularly in labor-intensive and manufacturing sectors.

Chairman of APINDO Sukoharjo, M Yunus Arianto, stated that the WFH model is not applicable to labor-intensive or manufacturing industries, which rely heavily on production targets to sustain operations.

“A one-day WFH scheme per week cannot be applied in manufacturing or labor-intensive industries. The manufacturing sector is closely tied to weekly and monthly production targets,” he said on Thursday (March 26, 2026).

Arianto explained that if the one-day WFH system were enforced in the private sector—particularly in manufacturing—it could negatively affect production output and, consequently, the financial performance of companies.

He emphasized that manufacturing remains a key pillar supporting regional economic growth. “Our hope is that if such a policy is introduced for the private sector, it should remain advisory rather than mandatory, as it is for civil servants,” he added.

A similar view was expressed by Secretary of the Serikat Pekerja Republik Indonesia (SPRI) Sukoharjo, Sigit Hastono. He urged the government to reassess the implementation of the one-day WFH policy in the private sector.

According to Sigit, WFH is more suitable for administrative roles, where daily tasks can be performed remotely.

“The situation is different for production workers, who are responsible for manufacturing and packaging processes in the industry,” he said.

He noted that approximately 95 percent of the manufacturing workforce is engaged in production, while only around 5 percent work in back-office or administrative roles.

“If the one-day WFH scheme is implemented, it will directly affect the company’s production process,” he concluded.
