Virtual Meeting with Chinese Investors: Governor Anwar Hafid Promotes Central Sulawesi as Investment-Friendly

PALU – Governor of Central Sulawesi, Anwar Hafid, accompanied by Vice Governor Reny Lamadjido and top provincial officials, participated in a virtual discussion with dozens of investors from China on Monday (May 26, 2025). The meeting, held in the Governor’s office, was facilitated by the Central Sulawesi chapter of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (DPP APINDO).

The session was also attended by key provincial agency heads and DPP APINDO Central Sulawesi executives. On the Chinese side, participants included numerous investors and representatives from Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

Governor Anwar Hafid welcomed the discussion and emphasized that Central Sulawesi offers vast multi-sector investment opportunities. He highlighted that the province comprises 13 regencies/cities, 252 villages, and 158 districts, all rich in economic collaboration potential.

“Central Sulawesi is one of Indonesia’s primary investment destinations, particularly for Chinese investors. Industrial zones focusing on nickel smelters, LNG, and plantation sectors like palm oil are already developing and operating smoothly,” said Hafid.

He attributed this success to the strong relationships between local governments and investors. He noted that Central Sulawesi still holds untapped investment prospects in industries such as gold and copper mining, agriculture, fisheries, and renewable energy, including hydroelectric power.

In front of the investors, the Governor reaffirmed his commitment to fostering an investor-friendly environment. He assured that investment permits under his administration would be handled transparently and efficiently.

“If investors are ready to invest, licensing will not be a hurdle. All procedures will be conducted transparently, swiftly, and without unnecessary burdens. This is our commitment,” he asserted.

The Governor also guaranteed legal protection for investors. “All investment activities are safeguarded by law. We’ve demonstrated this through the success of industrial zones such as PT Tsingshan and PT IMIP, which have been operating since 2015 and have received positive responses from local communities,” he added.

Echoing the Governor's message, DPP APINDO Central Sulawesi Chair Wijaya Chandra stated that the organization had facilitated communication with 24 Chinese investors, including several SOEs, through the virtual forum.

“Central Sulawesi holds enormous investment potential, from green energy like solar and ocean wave power, to mining, agriculture, and livestock sectors. With regulatory support from the local government, we are confident that more investors will be drawn in,” he said.

Wijaya noted that investors place high importance on legal certainty, regulatory support, and a conducive labor climate before committing their capital.

“We hope for full support from the Governor and the provincial government to ensure that investors feel secure and welcomed,” he added.

Wijaya also underlined Governor Anwar Hafid’s proven track record in supporting investment during his two terms as Regent of Morowali, a period that saw significant industrial investor growth.

“Governor Anwar Hafid has long demonstrated openness to investors. DPP APINDO Central Sulawesi is ready to serve as a bridge between investors—both domestic and international—and the regional government,” Wijaya concluded.

The DPP APINDO Central Sulawesi delegation at the virtual meeting included Chairman Wijaya Chandra, Secretary Ito Lawputra, Coordinator for Domestic and Foreign Investment Ricky Tjui, Vice Chairman Murtalib, Deputy Secretary Udin Salim, Coordinator for Young Creative Entrepreneurs Decky Danadi Chandra, and Coordinator for Membership and Regional Empowerment Leopold Mandagie.
