MEDAN — The North Sumatra Provincial Government (Pemprov Sumut) is reinforcing its external trade sector as part of efforts to maintain regional economic resilience.
One of the concrete steps taken is the organization of the Export–Import Acceleration Synergy Forum, held on Wednesday (April 22).
The event was officially opened by Head of the Industry, Trade, Energy, and Mineral Resources Office of North Sumatra, Dedi J.P. Harahap, who was accompanied by Secretary Yosi Sukmono and Head of Foreign Trade Division Iskandar Zulkarnaen.
The forum also involved the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) as a strategic partner of the government in strengthening the trade sector, particularly in export and import activities.
In his remarks, Dedi emphasized that stronger synergy between the government and the business community is a key factor in improving foreign trade performance in North Sumatra.
“Active collaboration between the government and business actors is crucial to identifying opportunities, understanding challenges, and formulating the right strategies to accelerate export–import activities,” he said.
According to Dedi, the increasingly competitive dynamics of global trade require well-measured strategic responses. Therefore, the forum is expected to serve as a productive platform for discussion in formulating policies and concrete actions.
The provincial government, he added, remains committed to enhancing the competitiveness of the region’s leading commodities to enable broader penetration into international markets.
“Through this forum, we want to ensure that the potential of North Sumatra’s flagship products can be optimized and contribute significantly to regional economic growth,” he stated.
Meanwhile, synergy with APINDO is seen as a vital step in bridging the interests of the government and business actors. With stronger and more consistent communication, various obstacles in export and import activities are expected to be minimized.
Through this strategic forum, the North Sumatra Provincial Government aims to establish more solid and sustainable cooperation, with the hope that the external trade sector will become a key driver of the region’s economic growth going forward.
