ISNU and APINDO Central Sulawesi Explore Productive Waqf Investment Partnership for Food Security

Palu – The Central Sulawesi Chapter of the Nahdlatul Ulama Scholars Association (ISNU) and the Provincial Board of the Indonesian Employers' Association (APINDO) are exploring a strategic partnership to develop productive waqf investments aimed at strengthening food security in the region. This collaboration is expected to address key challenges in food resilience while promoting innovative, sustainable, and productive uses of waqf assets.

Wijaya Chandra, Chairman of APINDO Central Sulawesi, expressed his full support for the initiative. He emphasized the vital role of the food sector and highlighted the region’s vast potential that can be harnessed through collaborative efforts involving academics and local business actors.

“APINDO is ready to synergize with ISNU to promote the utilization of waqf assets as a vehicle for productive investment,” said Wijaya on Sunday afternoon, May 18, in Palu.

Dr. Sahran Raden, Chairman of ISNU Central Sulawesi, noted that productive waqf is part of an innovative approach to community-based economic development. He described the partnership with APINDO as an important first step in transforming waqf into a significant economic force, particularly in the context of food security.

“Waqf should not be limited to mosques or cemeteries—it can serve as a strategic resource in addressing today’s challenges,” said Sahran Raden.

The planned collaboration will focus on mapping land potential and developing management schemes for productive waqf initiatives in agriculture and plantation sectors. Both organizations are also committed to involving civil society elements, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), and MSMEs as integral parts of the partnership ecosystem.

“ISNU and APINDO are confident that with the right synergy, productive waqf can become a key pillar in achieving food sovereignty and improving the welfare of the people of Central Sulawesi,” he concluded.
