APINDO Banyuwangi Commends Police’s Swift Action to Resolve Congestion at Ketapang Port

BANYUWANGI, Indonesia – The Banyuwangi Chapter of the Indonesian Employers’ Association (APINDO) has expressed its appreciation for the swift response by the police in resolving severe traffic congestion along the main access route to Ketapang Port. Thanks to the prompt action of the police force, port loading and unloading activities have now returned to normal.
Secretary of APINDO Banyuwangi, Danu Budiyono, praised the performance of the Banyuwangi City Police (Polresta Banyuwangi), highlighting their quick response following the suspension of 15 vessels deemed unfit to sail.
"The heavy congestion that had occurred since last Wednesday was successfully resolved thanks to the prompt measures taken by the Banyuwangi Police," said Danu on Sunday (July 20, 2025).
Beyond their fieldwork, Danu also commended the strong coordination and synergy between the police, Pelindo, the Port Authority (KSOP), and ferry operator ASDP. This collaborative effort helped accelerate the inspection process, allowing vessels to resume operations and easing traffic flow.
“The situation, which had disrupted public activity and logistics distribution, has now normalized. The suspension of 15 Landing Craft Tank (LCT)-type vessels for ramp checks had caused a major bottleneck,” he explained.
“Now, both the Ketapang-Gilimanuk ferry operations and loading-unloading activities at Tanjungwangi Port are running smoothly again,” he added.
APINDO extended its gratitude to the Banyuwangi Police, Pelindo, ASDP, and other relevant stakeholders, especially the Banyuwangi traffic police unit (Satlantas) for implementing early traffic diversions and control measures.
Police efforts also included providing mental and physical support to truck drivers stuck in long traffic jams.
“We sincerely thank the police for maintaining security, managing traffic, and coordinating tirelessly on the ground for days to ensure public order and safety,” said Danu.
Looking ahead, APINDO Banyuwangi pledged its support for the Ministry of Transportation’s initiative to evaluate the operational permits of passenger vessels and LCT-type ships, aiming to prevent a repeat of the sinking of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya.
“It’s essential to avoid prolonged traffic congestion, which can cause losses to many parties. Therefore, we urge relevant authorities to take swift and comprehensive steps to ensure such incidents do not recur,” Danu concluded.
