APINDO Bandung Supports Government Efforts to Reduce Unemployment Through Job Fair Initiative
Sunday, 26 April 2026
BANDUNG — The Bandung chapter of the Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government efforts to reduce unemployment, including through participation in a job fair organized by the Bandung City Manpower Office (Disnaker) in the eastern part of the city on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Held at Teras Sunda Cibiru, the event offered thousands of employment opportunities across various industrial sectors.
APINDO Bandung Chair Ahmad Kosim Asmari said the initiative represents a strategic effort by the Bandung City Government to directly connect job seekers with employers.
“This is a program initiated by the Bandung City Government through the Manpower Office. Through this activity, APINDO fully supports and remains ready to collaborate closely with the government,” he said.
He further noted that the job fair program provides significant benefits for the people of Bandung, particularly as similar events are expected to be expanded to nearly every district in the city.
“We conveyed to the government that this program is highly beneficial because it helps unemployed residents reduce job application costs. Usually, job seekers must spend money just to apply for work. With job fairs being held in each area, the community will receive better support. In the future, the program is planned not only for East Bandung but for all districts across Bandung,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Bandung Mayor Muhammad Farhan highlighted weak purchasing power as one of the city’s key socioeconomic challenges, closely linked to employment availability.
“Our main issue is not only prices, but purchasing power. And that is strongly determined by whether people have jobs or not,” he stated.
Farhan noted that Bandung’s open unemployment rate currently stands at approximately 7.44 percent, higher than the provincial average in West Java. He described the situation as a serious challenge that requires immediate and concrete action.
According to him, Bandung possesses a major advantage in the form of a highly educated workforce, which should be leveraged to attract investment and create more employment opportunities.
“We must change our perspective. The availability of labor should not be seen as a burden for investors, but rather as a major potential that we can offer,” he said.
He also encouraged the Bandung City Manpower Office to continue introducing innovations, including plans to hold job fairs regularly every month and expand workforce training programs to improve job seekers’ competencies.
Head of the Bandung City Manpower Office, Yayan A. Brilyana, stated that the job fair was designed to provide the public with fast, accurate, and accessible information regarding employment opportunities.
“Through this activity, we want to ensure that job seekers have real opportunities to secure employment according to their competencies, while also helping companies obtain qualified workers,” he said.
The event featured 3,528 job vacancies from various sectors, with a targeted absorption rate of at least 50 percent.
In addition to employment services, APINDO also enlivened the event through various supporting activities, including door prize giveaways.
