Apindo Urges Batu City Government to Be More Innovative and Adaptive

BATU – As the administration of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Batu City, Nurochman and Heli Suyanto, marks its first year in office, business leaders are urging the Batu City Government to become more innovative and adaptive amid increasingly intense interregional competition.

Chairman of the Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) of Batu City, Suryo Widodo, said that current economic challenges require local governments to undertake comprehensive reforms across key strategic sectors.

“In an era full of challenges like today, every region must improve itself. Competition among regions is getting tighter, therefore Batu City needs to be more innovative across all sectors, ranging from tourism, MSMEs, agriculture, to food and beverage,” Suryo said on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Suryo, who is also the Director of Jawa Timur Park Group, emphasized the importance of proactive government measures in realizing the vision and mission of Mayor Nurochman and Deputy Mayor Heli Suyanto, particularly programs that have a direct impact on public welfare.

“The government must be more proactive in implementing its vision and mission and be closer to the community. This can be done by strengthening communication and listening to public aspirations,” he said.

According to him, public satisfaction with government performance can be achieved through improvements in quality of life, especially in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and the strengthening of sustainable economic growth based on MSMEs, tourism, and investment.

In addition, Suryo highlighted the importance of good governance by prioritizing transparency, accountability, and excellent public services.

“Government administration must be well managed. Transparency and accountability need to be strengthened, as well as public services. Infrastructure development such as roads, bridges, and public facilities must also be a priority, including efforts to encourage investment and regional economic growth,” he stressed.

He noted that regional development should be supported by long-term strategic planning that involves public participation.

Optimizing natural resources and human resources should also be a key focus to enhance the quality of public services and infrastructure development.

Suryo added that government decision-making processes should be conducted openly and involve the public as part of efforts to create inclusive governance that is oriented toward public needs.
