APINDO Pasuruan to Pilot WFH Policy Implementation

PASURUAN – The Indonesian Employers Association (APINDO) of Pasuruan City has welcomed the central government’s policy encouraging a one-day-per-week Work From Home (WFH) scheme for private sector employees. However, the association plans to conduct a trial implementation of the policy before broader adoption.

APINDO Pasuruan Secretary, Fajar Agustinus, said the organization appreciates the government’s move as part of efforts to reduce fuel consumption amid geopolitical pressures in the Middle East. He affirmed that APINDO supports the policy direction set by the central government.

Despite the support, Fajar acknowledged that implementing WFH is not without challenges. He emphasized that not all business sectors can adopt remote working arrangements, particularly those requiring physical presence to maintain operational performance. While companies may adjust working days and hours, certain industries remain dependent on on-site personnel.

“For some conventional companies, WFH is difficult to implement because production activities cannot run without workers being physically present. Not all sectors can adopt WFH, especially production-based industries,” he said.

Fajar added that companies under APINDO will still attempt to align with the policy by conducting a two-month pilot program. The trial period will include a comprehensive evaluation to assess its effectiveness and impact on business operations.

“We will assess both the advantages and disadvantages for companies during the trial phase,” he explained.

The Ministry of Manpower has officially introduced the WFH policy through a circular, encouraging private companies, state-owned enterprises (SOEs), and regionally owned enterprises (ROEs) to implement one day of remote work per week, with flexibility in scheduling based on company policies.
