Apindo Papua Responds to Government’s Call for Flexible Working Hours

JAYAPURA – Following the government's decision to allow civil servants (ASN) to implement Work From Anywhere (WFA) or Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA), the government has now urged private companies to adopt similar measures.

The Indonesian Employers Association (Apindo) acknowledges the government's appeal, which aims to ease mobility during the Eid homecoming (mudik) season. However, not all sectors and job roles can implement this policy.

The Chairman of Apindo Papua, Tulus Sianipar, stated that this decision is difficult to implement in Papua, especially for companies operating in the manufacturing sector.

"For employees who only require a laptop and internet connection, it might be feasible. However, labor-intensive industries cannot adopt this approach, as their work cannot be done remotely or from just anywhere," said Tulus in Jayapura on Thursday (March 13, 2025).

The Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA) policy is based on several factors, including work efficiency, employee well-being, technological advancements, and modern demands.

In general, FWA can be implemented in two ways: flexibility in location and flexibility in working hours.
